Self-Care Management in Patients with Type II Diabetes A concept analysis pursues to outline, distinguish, and enhance the clarity of the nursing profession as well as encourage future research efforts. Within the elaboration of a concept analysis, concepts and thoughts are outlined and studied through the vital features of that concept. According to Walker & Avant (2011), there are seven steps to achieving a concept analysis which includes the choice of a concept, defining the purpose of analysis, classifying all uses of the concept, crucial attributes, recognizing a model case of the concept, identifying antecedents and consequences, and identifying empirical references. Orem developed the theory of Self-Care in the early 1980s. Self-care, self-reliance and treating patients as individuals were some of Orem’s main concepts throughout her theory and nursing practice. Nursing researcher have utilized Orem’s theory as a skeleton for research and evidence-based practice. In this article, the author is evaluating self-care management in adults who suffer with diabetes. Introduction In 1980, Dorothea Orem developed the theory of self-care. This theory has been applied by many educational researchers as an outline in the development of further research and education as well as promoting specific responsibility in promoting health and preventing disease. Orem’s theory of self-care has aided in the transition of nursing care into the 21 st century and will continue to be a major theory throughout future nursing. Aim of the concept The purpose of this analysis is to examine the self-care capabilities of residents living in the assisted living facilities suffering with type II diabetes. analysis methodology, we are aiming to identify and define characteristics, categorize model cases, borderline cases, related cases, opposing cases, false and illegitimate case, recognize antecedents, consequences, and define empirical referents. Attributes of self-care Self-care involves the ability to care for ones-self and to perform tasks that are essential to sustain and encourage health.
