IE 580 Homework 2 Answer 1 Flow shop example problem (example in handout 2). Modelling of system the system using Station/Route Branch Blocks and apply and evaluate five different ranking rules. Simulation run time: control run length by creating 50 jobs for each type. Replications= 100 As we are trying to minimize the average number of jobs in system and average time in the system. Modelling was done on basis of 5 ranking rules. 1. First In First out rule 2. Last in first out 3. Shortest Processing time first 4. Longest processing time first 5. Shortest Entity Wait Time First Modelling was done and simulation was run in Arena for different rules with the same basic modelling logic while changing the priority rule in the Rankings element. We run the models individually and compare it simultaneously using process analyzer because the number of replications in this model are large. Comparing the results of 5 different applied rules we get: Where the responses are : Average number of jobs in the system and Tally 1 denotes average time in the system. Scenario 1 in the process analyzer is based on Shortest Processing First which yields the above shown values.

Scenario 2 in the process analyzer is based on Longest Processing Time First which yields the above shown result. Scenario 3 in the process analyzer is result based on first in first out principle. This is the default rule in Arena and it obtains the above given values.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
