1 Film 101 Film Journal: The Hurt Locker In 2008 when the Hurt Locker was released, the United States was still in the middle of sending troops to and from Iraq and as a retired service member, even I was tired of hearing about it, so I was sure that the rest of the country was too. It was old news, and that is why I believe this film made even bigger strides because in the midst of politics, people wanting their sons and daughters back home, Bigelow was able to deliver a solid war film. Taking three separate characters from three separate backgrounds adds to the realism you will see in the military. I enjoyed the title because essentially means it is a place of pain you cannot get rid or out of. Their hurt locker was their deployment and they saw the light at the end of the tunnel. And with the audience knowing it also added more edge of your seat experiences because as anyone else could see, in EOD, anyone can be gone at any given moment. More realism was added with the stone-cold acting of Jeremy Renner and his “I will do
