Pastoral Ministry: How to Shepherd Biblically is a collection of writings by John MacArthur and the Master’s College Seminary faculty from Sun Valley, CA. The book was written to those who would choose to go into pastoral leadership as well as those who have already answered the call. It emphasizes the importance of what a Pastor must do to lead a church successfully and faithfully through prayer, holiness, worship, discipleship, being a servant, and having a compassion for the people in whom God put under you (MacArthur, 2005, back cover). The four main sections of the book compromise of Biblical perspectives, preparatory perspectives, personal perspectives and pastoral perspectives. This paper will give an overview of each of these sections as well as a short critique of the books overall contents. Biblical Perspectives The first section of the book, Biblical Perspective , does just what the title suggests. It looks at the scriptures to show the importance of the position of Pastor. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 is the primary focus throughout this section. “This passage teaches not only the high view of Scripture’s authority, but also its sufficiency, especially in formulating ministry plans and priorities. It demands that we begin with God and the Bible rather than man and culture in order to understand God’s will in ministry (MacArthur, 2005, p.11).”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
