c. Discuss the attributes of an information literate person (4 marks). d. Explain why journal articles are the most appropriate source of information to use when conducting academic research? (5 marks) Distinguish between copyright and plagiarism (6 marks) Plagiarism is simply taking someone else’s work thus the original work and passing it off as one’s own work. In the definition the term “work” can include various things like ideas, words and images etc. It happens all the time with school kids, at work or even on the internet thus every day in our lives everywhere there is plagiarism taking place. Copyright it simply means that the original creator of any work he or she is the only one who has the right to distribute or publish that work for a set period of time unless he or she explicitly hands over that right to someone else. It does not have to be explicitly mentioned or registered anywhere but the act of creation is itself enough to give the ownership and be protected by law. Another difference is that plagiarism often covers things that are not covered by copyright hence ideas, facts and general plot elements are all things that can be plagiarized at least in certain situations but generally do not qualify for copyright.[ CITATION Mau06 \l 1033 ] According to the website Plagiarismtoday, “the other difference between plagiarism and copyright is that plagiarism is a violation of academic norms but not illegal whilst copyright violation is illegal but in truth pretty ubiquitous in academia. Another difference is that plagiarism is an offence against the author whilst copyright violation is an offence against the copyright holder and in addition in traditional academic publishing, they are usually not the same person due to the ubiquity of copyright transfer agreements. The other difference is that avoiding 2 | P a g e
