Fracture- A break or crack in a bone. Closed Fracture- The skin is intact, no wound exists anywhere near the fracture site. Open Fracture- Skin over the fracture has been broken. Wound may result from the bone protruding through the skin or from a direct blow that cut the skin at the time of the fracture. Crepitus- Can be felt and sometimes even heard when the ends of the broken bone rub together. Strain- When a muscle is stretched beyond its normal range of motion and tears the muscle. Sprain- Occur when a joint is twisted or stretched beyond its normal range of motion. Dislocation- occurs when a joint comes apart and stays apart with the bone ends no longer in contact. Tendinitis- Inflammation of the tendon. Cramp- A painful spasm of a muscle. Sling- A triangular bandage applied around the neck to support an injured upper extremity; any material long enough to suspend an upper extremity by passing the material around the neck; used to support and protect an injury of the arm, shoulder, or clavicle.
