Human Resource Management Journal, 27(1), pp. 22-36.Guest focuses on the role of HRM in creating employee wellbeing. What arguments does Guest make for the focus on employee wellbeing? Throughout the piece, Guest focuses on how HRM needs to give greater priority to promoting employee well-being. He has 3 main arguments which are:1.Ethically, It is the right thing to doBeer et al (2015) says that most HRM studies sole purpose has been to improve financial return for shareholders, often neglecting interests of stakeholders including their ‘well-being’. The management of employees for their benefit and for the benefit of their organisations (Nankervis et al.) “SHRM views employees as resources that need to be squeezed of their economic value”. Guest describes this as typically employees being an means to an end.
