Sexually Transmitted Diseases(STDs) • Are infections transmitted from an infected person to an uninfected person through sexual contact . • STDs can be caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites. Examples include gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus infection, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), chlamydia and syphilis.
STDs are a significant global healthy priority because of their overwhelming impact on women and infants and their inter relationships with HIV and AIDS . STDs and HIV are associated with biological interactions . STDs can increase the risk of getting and transmitting HIV. STDs can lead to long-term health problems, usually in women and infants .
Health Complications that arises from STDs are; • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease • Infertility • Tubal or ectopic pregnancy • Cervical Cancer • Perinatal or Congenital Infections
