I found it interesting how big of an effect a flood can have on the health of a population. I never realized the extent to which floods can contaminate drinking water. In the 2004 flood in Bangladesh, there were over 200,000 cases and nearly 100 diarrhoea-related deaths in the span of a little over a month. Being from Milwaukee, I remember when there was a huge cryptosporidium outbreak in the water in 1993. I was only 6 at the time, but I still remember seeing information about it all over the news and having to drink bottled water instead of tap water. It gave me a firsthand experience of the effects of contaminated water. What was the primary hypothesis that the authors were testing? The authors were testing different treatment options of the contaminated drinking water in Dhaka city Bangladesh. They wanted to find the easiest, simplest, and least expensive
