What are the overall strengths of HP’s treatment of Corporate
Entrepreneurship? Consider the overall model of CE, the different structures
and organization of new ideas, what happens once a new project has grown,
and staffing.
They brought in subject matter experts (champions) not placed in a leadership role
to help grow the business.
They changed the R&D budget strategy.
With the
development of HPís homegrown Blackbird, and its acquisition of a small Canadian
gaming specialty PC maker called Voodoo in September 2006, gaming had become a
separate segment within PSG. (p2-3)

Despite these strengths, there are still some weaknesses of HP’s approach.
What are some of the most obvious ones, and in what ways are they
weaknesses?
There was a lack of collaborative efforts.
Some executives viewed the IPO idea as a
distraction. (p10)
This is weakness because there is no common vision as to where
they want to take the company
