Organizational Design - a process involving decisions about six key elements: Work specialization, Departmentalization, Chain of command, Span of control, Centralization and decentralization, Formalization Functional Structure: S Economy of scale, employee development, best with only one or a few products Weaknesses : Slow response to external change, little innovation, lack of goal awareness, hierarchy overload Divisional Structure: S Adaptive to environ., customer satisfaction, highly coordinated across functions , decentralized decision making, good for large, multi-product organizations Weaknesses: Poor coordination, Difficult to integrate & standardize . Eliminates Economies of scale in functional dept. and In-depth competence & tech. specialization Organizational Designs (6 types):
