POLITICS, POLICY, AND GLOBAL HEALTH2 Politics, Policy, and Global Health Introduction This paper represents an issue in policy, politics and global health and minority nurses. As nursing continues to advance health care in the 21st century, the current shift in demographics, coupled with the ongoing disparities in health care and health outcomes, will warrant the need for ongoing attention and action [ CITATION Phi14 \l 1033 ] . As within all health professions, concerted efforts are needed to diversify the nation's health-care workforce [ CITATION Phi14 \l 1033 ] . The nursing profession is challenged to recruit and retain a culturally diverse workforce that mirrors the nation's change in demographics [ CITATION Phi14 \l 1033 ] . This increased need to enhance diversity in nursing is not new to the profession; however, the need to successfully address this issue has never been greater [ CITATION Phi14 \l 1033 ] . This writer will discuss how increasing diversity in nursing can benefit and help reduce health disparities and provide advocacy for minority nurses in practice. There is an implicit premise that underlies nursing force diversity efforts—that increasing force diversity can result to diminished health disparities among racial/ethnic minority populations. As a matter of fact, the hypothesis is embedded in the conceptual model at which the supplement is grounded. However, while many writers have reported on the different schemes and effects associated with enhancing workforce diversity, the contributions of minority nurses in eliminating health disparities are not well documented [ CITATION Phi14 \l 1033 ]. This paper reviews the literature on how these strategies can be implemented to reduce disparities between minority nurses and their colleagues. It also examines the role of nurse leadership in reducing disparities among minority nurses.

If we want to create not just a more equal world but a happier and more productive one, we would need to see outside ourselves and try to identify with these experiences of others. The important ability is called empathy, which can change relationships, from the personal to the political, and make profound cultural change ''[ CITATION Gih18 \l 1033 ]. The organization in which this writer practice in is in the heart of an urban city, Indianapolis, Indiana. This facility was developed in 1855 and was known to the community as the city hospital[ CITATION Esk16 \l 1033 ]. It opened as a response to the outbreak of smallpox in the Civil War. Many were treated in this facility during that time. After the war, the federal
