Josie Clevenger Math 123-15F 11 April 2019 Financial Future Project: Reflection Paper My desired area of employee once I graduate with a bachelor’s in business administration and finish school for makeup design, is to be a special and modern affects makeup artist for the film industry. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean salary is 86,420 for designers in motion picture and the video industries. While complementing special effect course are beneficial when starting out your career, an education is not required. For this comparison however, I will be assessing the absolute and relative change between being a theatrical makeup artist verse a makeup artist with the film industry. The mean salary made in theatrical makeup is 64,240. This is $22,180 or 35% lower than the annual salary of a performance makeup artist. Since this occupation doesn’t require any higher education, to participate in constructing a semi-accurate model I researched into the average wage gap between high school and college graduates. According to Corner Stone Education, a college graduate earns about $17,500 more per month than a high school graduate. Taking this information into consideration, I deducted this about from the mean salary of a special affects’ makeup artist earns. This begins the high school graduate’s salary about 25% lower than the college graduate’s salary or to $68,920 per year.
