AG 4010 VIDEO DISCUSSION #2
From watching the video on Land-grabbing, I was able to realize how big of an issue this
really is in our world today. What I learned from the man in the video, land-grabbing is the
buying and selling of land for profit, not considering sustainability or farmer existence. I do not
think land-grabbing is ethical, however, I can see that the other side of the argument can have
profitable explanations.
The first ethical theory I see at play is ethical egoism. With ethical egoism, it is explained
in the textbook that it is the theory that revolves around one’s self-interest. The right or wrong of
a situation will come from a positive benefit that focuses on just one individual ( Shafer-Landau,
2012, p.104) . In the video, it seems like these buyers of the land are individuals that do not care
