Movie 2 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest The movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is set in a mental asylum in the Pacific Northwest. The Film is about a total institution, a place where people are cut off from the rest of society. The employees who run the mental institution are in complete control over all the patients. The movie beings by introducing McMurphy, a man convicted of statutory rape who pleaded insanity to get out of the work farms. The state of oppression enforced by the medical personnel in the institution led to the inmates looking to McMurphy as a leader who would be willing to defy the authorities. He fought against their policies and befriended the loners in the group. Inside the asylum McMurphy met the other inmates who are just as sane as everyone else but committed themselves into the mental institution as a way to seclude themselves from society. They hoped that the hospital could teach them how to manage and survive out in a society where it’s every man for themselves. The institution did the
