Coach Of The Year Award
I am honored to be here today to accept the NBA sponsored “coach of the year award”! I never
could have imagined that I would be standing here today to accept this prestigious award named
after the great Boston Celtics coach, Red Auerbach.
In the 56 years this award has been given
since it started back in 1963, 40 different NBA head coaches have won before me. At the end of
every regular season a panel of US and Canadian Sportswriters vote on who should win 1
st
, 2
nd
and 3
rd
place.
To even be nominated for this award is an honor, anyone of us nominated could
have won this award because we all put our team in the best opportunity to be the best.
I started as a team manager at FAU in 2018, under Coach Dusty May, and the COTY award
wasn’t even a thought that crossed my mind. For years I didn’t really know what I wanted to do
with my life changing my major 4 times in 2 years. When I finally became the team manager
what I wanted to do became clear to me. The first coaching job I had was an assistant job at a
