Comm 4000 Journal 7 Week 7 – 3/4/08 – 3/6/08 (You need to answer 2 questions this week). 1. Compare Huntington and Said’s argument(s). What are some shortcomings to Huntington’s and Said’s arguments that you thought of when reading both articles? What are some applications and implications of their arguments that you see (have seen or have read about) in our larger discourses? In Huntington’s article he discusses a post-Cold War era where many were beginning to shift towards the global but had many reservations because of the relationship between global powerhouses. Huntington later goes on to talk about conflict of civilizations and how civilization will continue to clash as we enter a more global day. He talks about a clash of ideas between western and non western countries that will not be resolved but only get worse if the world adopts a global economy. He later goes on to discuss civilization identity and the fact that civilizations are held down by the identity that follows them. He contends that these identities are very important but if not handled
