Conflict in the workplace can affect the quality of care for patients, it can put great strain on nurse patient relationship and lead to negative outcomes in patient care. Many factors can lead to conflict in the workplace, when you have groups of people with different opinions and views working together for long hours it can lead to some tension. Age and experience are also factor’s that I have seen play a part in conflicts. Staffing and patient ratios can lead to tension have seen conflicts between nurses as well as conflicts between doctors and nurses. What I have seen to be a major part in why these conflicts arise is the lack of communication. When you have multiple people working on a patient’s case with multiple view points and so many orders being given, communication is important in making sure the patient is being properly taken care of. I work in the ER/OBS unit and it is very fast paced, multi-tasking, proper communication and team work are very important when it comes to taking care of our patients.
