ORGANIZATIONAL ANALYSIS: THE NURSE LEADEROrganizational Analysis – The Nurse LeaderBeing a nurse means so much more than just taking care of our patients, being a nurse means being a leader, an innovator, someone people can look up to. As a nurse it is important to recognize and practice effective leadership qualities. In the following leadership qualities and characteristics will be discussed as well as what makes an effective nurse leader. Clinical Coach and Charge NurseDuring the past few days I was able to shadow a clinical coach who is also a charge nurseas well. There are a few clinical coaches on my unit however I chose to learn from Yasmin Lozano, RN-BSN, she is the night shift charge nurse and clinical coach. Yasmin has been working as a charge nurse and coach on the observation unit for over 5 years now and she has really shaped the unit into what it has become. Yasmin is also a part of our shared governance board and is always continuing to make our unit a better place for patients and staff. As a charge nurse Yasmin is helping to manage nursing staff and the unit as a whole. As the clinical coach she is assisting staff with keeping up to date on skills and proper nursing practices. As stated in my shadow plan Coaches are required to “protect patients from novice error, protect the novice from making errors that might threaten self/others, protect coachee from adverse behaviors of others (patients and staff), ensure safe learning environment for the novice to study and practice in, consider licensed scope of practice when assigning and delegating, support developing skills while ensuring safe care, safe practice, protect the professional reputation of your licensing board, ensure adherence to policy and procedure” (Clinical Coaching). Through shadowing Yasmin, I have seen her implement these qualities in her practice. She showed me how to safely delegate tasks and methods to help new nurses learn

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
