Postwar Foreign Policy Henry Cabot Lodge Dawes Plan Review from last class Mexican rev. – 2 underlying causes: Land reform Overthrow of the diaz regime Trouble started brewing around 1910 but started 1911. end of revolution is 1917 with new Mexican constitution. Political conflict and violence continued well into 1920’s. This is first instance where Wilson is drug into international affairs. Stepped into Mexican revolution because powerful business interests called for it. Land and economic reform. He gets involved and tried to effect out come by halting shipments. Cuts off pancho villa from getting shipments. Occupation of vera cruz? Pancho Villa – launches a raid into Columbus, NM to start a war with U.S. in 1916. Ransacks the town, kills dozens of Americans then goes back to mexico. US sends someone to capture Villa, but after a yearlong manhunt still don’t capture him. By this point, Wilson is on verge to request permission from congress to occupy northern mexico. 14 pts –
