Cockerham 1 Audrey Cockerham Intro to Public Policy & Admin Dr. Russell Frazier 25 April 2019 Brown vs. Board of Education and School Integration The purpose of this paper is to analyze school integration policy that were formed after the famous case of Brown vs. the Board of Education , how they impacted communities, and if they were affective in integrating schools. School integration policies are and were very important to the world because it is one of the defining moments for the Civil Rights Movement and a groundbreaking moment for the African Americans. They were just one step closer to having the same rights as others in the United States, more specifically the south. Brown vs. Board of Education , formally known as Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka , was a landmark case in 1954, where the Supreme Court justices ruled unanimously ruled that racial segregation of children within public schools was unconstitutional. The case was the cornerstone of the civil rights movement and helped establish the precedent that “separate but equal” education and other formalities were, in fact, not equal at all.
