Atone point in the book, Johnny is a young adult who is homeless and looking for work. He finds work delivering newspapers that an American political party, called the Whigs, prints. This slowly integrates him into the political party as he gets promoted from delivery to editing and writing. He starts to edit the newspapers and submit articles which helped him to learn more about the Whig Party. It allowed him to express his ideas to the public without interference or in other words, freedom of speech. He joins a group called the Sons of Libertywho are followers of the Whig Party’s ideas. All throughout the book, themes of patriotism shows that the revolutionary spirit within these people is fierce. Similarly to the Whig Party and members in the Sons of Liberty, people today believe in fighting for their rights. The patriotic, revolutionary spirit still lives within the people because people today still continue to protest for their beliefs and rights.
