She speaks fluent English and Spanish. Paula was involved in early adolescent marriage at the age of 17 years. She got married to David and later fell pregnant for him. Paula has one child aged 20 years. However, Paula lost custody of her son while 8 years old on grounds that she was not mentally sound to take care of her child. Slide 2: Theoretical Orientation Use In Paula Cortez’ case, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will be beneficial in coming up with a solution because of its sole focus: CBT will focus on Paula’s dysfunctional emotions and behavior through a systematic and goal-oriented lens. Having detailed information on daily events will be integral in determining Paula’s emotions and behavior. It will be viable to come up with evaluations and beliefs that will be easier to achieve. Notes: The most important thing about cognitive behavioral therapy in this case is that it will help Paula to effectively manage activities that will cause additional stress to her problems. Cognitive behavioral therapy will also help Paula to relax and take her life positively. Positivity is important in expanding Paula’s thoughts on different aspects about life. Slide 3: Assessing Problem Orientation of Paula Cortez Cultural assessment tool like culture gram will be prove critical when assessing problem orientation of Paula Cortez. The tool will help to determine the problem by integrating a strength-based assessment in line with CBT. Research by Sommers-Flanagan & Sommers-Flanagan (2013) indicates that CBT is an effective tool that produces positive outcomes when dealing with mandated clients. This means that CBT will help in development of a treatment plan that would fit into Paula’s case.
