Sedimentary Rock 04/02/2008 14:42:00 Why do we care about sedimentary rocks? 1. Beautiful land forms 2. 75% of all bedrock outcrops on continents are sedimentary 3. Sediments deposited at surface give us clues about past  ENVIRONMENTS…and sedimentary rocks contain fossils – show relative  age of rocks 4. Economically important – coal, oil, natural gas, ground water, etc. can be  found in sedimentary rock Types of Sedimentary rock: 1. Clastic sedimentary rock – made of a bunch of fragments 2. Chemical sedimentary rock – inorganic (not made by a living thing) EX.  Salt on the road from salting the road.  Coral reef is an example of biogenic  rock (made by life Where does sediment come from? How do you build a clastic sedimentary rock?. ..look at the rock cycle in slide  show.
