1 Stat 353 Tutorial 3 Part A: Which hypothesis is which? This exercise is to determine which hypotheses are which in R summary tables for T and F statistical tests for regression. The data is from Weisberg, Table 2.1 p35. Go to the course website () and open the file. Copy this into a notepad and save it on your computer as a text file (fuel.txt). Change the working directory for R so that you can access this file. 1. Read in the dataset where the response is FUEL: motor fuel consumption (gallons per person) and the covariates are TAX (cents per gallon), DLIC (percent population with driver’s licenses), INC (average income in thousands of dollars), ROAD (thousands of miles). Other variables are in this file including state, population size in 1972 and NLIC number of driver’s licenses. Variables in the file are: STATE AREA POP TAX NLIC INC ROAD DLIC As this file does not have header names, name the variables to make things easier when modeling. Some variables will also be converted to be consistent with Weisberg’s definitions. FUEL
