Naznin Miah NFS 2220 11/14/18 Lab 4: Protein Metabolism Introduction/Background: The purpose of this lab was to employ proper laboratory techniques in order to determine whether one is in positive, negative, or zero nitrogen balance by knowing the protein (nitrogen) intake. Proteins are complex organic compounds that are necessary for growth and repair of all living matter. They are macromolecule composed of one or more long chain of amino acids and are an essential part of all living organisms, especially as structural components of body tissues such as muscle, hair, collagen, etc., and as enzymes and antibodies. Amino acids form a string that folds and coils upon itself giving the protein shape and function. There are 20 different amino acids used in proteins, 9 of which are considered nutritionally essential. Amino acids are all alike in the respect that each one contains a central carbon atom, an anime group, a carboxyl group, and a radical group. Proteins differ because the radical group id different for each amino

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
