WEEK 6DEBRA NELSONWeek OneI am both excited and nervous to start this journey for PMHNP. One goal Walden advises students to useis bringing forward their experiences and skills from their professional life to their student life.(WaldenUniversity,2019, para.2)I think this is an excellent goal.I have been a nurse for over 18 years, I have experience both in OB and Peds.I currently work inpatient adolescent psych at a children’s hospital, we have a secure holding area connected to the ER and have inpatient population.I am a SANE, and have experience working with survivors of human trafficking.I am still trying to decide what I want to do when I grow up, but psych had always been a keen interest throughout my entire nursing career. Honestly, any nursing involves a considerable amount of psych, all I strongly feel all nurses deal with psych issues with every patient. When I’m done, I plan to work either in addictions or post-partum population, I am sure my opinion may change as I go thru the program.Walden’s program strongly encourages both networking and individual learning. This is important to me as some online programs seem disconnected and like the students are all alone.I have friends who are graduates of Walden and they were so happy with the program, I was encouraged to pursue my degree here. Another plus is Walden being an accredited school, I am proud to be in the program and am looking forward to this journey.NETWORK MEMBER 1 - Name: Sara Pollard -Title: PMHNPOrganization: Postpartum Support International, Nurse Family PartnershipAcademic or Professional: AcademicWhy I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:Notes: Sara has been a mentor for me during my pursuit of my PMHNP degree.
