Where does Leopold's idea of the land ethic fit into
these two categories?
Instrumental value is when humans see use for a living organism but intrinsic value the
living organism is not needed. Aldo Leopold fought to protect wilderness for all the
different livening species but also for the quality of humans.

What is the Lacey Act, why was it needed, and how is it used to protect wild species?
The first act against killing animals illegally. This act gives authority to the USFWS for
federal charges against a violator.

How does the Endangered Species Act preserve threatened and endangered species in the
United States of America?
Once an animal is determined to be endangered or threatened it becomes illegal to kill,
trap, or modify a habitat.
9. What do the letters in HIPPO stand for and what is an example of each?
Habitat destruction
Conversion – Natural areas being converted into buildings or structures
Fragmentation – Making sections of habitat small with human development.
