Secret Path Sasha - underlinedLudy - not underlinedBoth - boldDuring the winter time. There are five kids standing with paper bag masks covering their faces. Nobody can identify them due to the masks. There is an empty swing in the playground. A dusty raven with black eyes and black feathers is staring at the tree in front of it.There is an empty railway covered in snow in the forest. There are a few ravens flying in the sky seeking for something. Someone is approaching slowly to the side of the railway. His face can be seen more clearly as he walks closer. He’s wearing a thin jacket and a pair of pants in cold weather. He’s trying to make himself warmer with his arms crossed. He can see his own breath blowing out from his mouth. He’s feeling helpless because there’s no one he can ask for help. There is a boy shaking due to the cold weather. He stops on the railway and closes his eyes immediately. He starts to think about the happiness when he lived with his family. He enjoyed waiting for fish to get on a hook. During the summertime, he was so happy when he caught fishes. The happiness was shown on his face from his heart. The boy still remembers all the details from his memory living with his family. He remembers the green grass, grey rocks, the colour of sunset and the feeling of the water in the lake.It was his strongest memory when he owned his culture by living in nature and with his family. The boy is going home because he has caught enough fish. He was walking in the forestwithout shoes on him,he felt the softness of the grass under his feet.He turned back facing nature and realized that he was such a small part of the world. When he headed back home, he saw his family beside the house. His mom was holding the baby, his younger sisterwas standing beside mom and his dad was cooking beside the fire. The whole family were looking at him with big smiles on their faces, and they welcomed him to come home. As the sun
is going down, the memory about his family comes to an end. After thinking about all his feelings from the past to the reality, the boy looks up and notices the raven sitting on the tree and staring at the boy. The raven makes some loud noises and flies right away. Feathers from the raven’s wings start to fall. The boy is looking at all the feathers falling down because he thinks these feathers were the hair falling down on the floor in the residential school. He was sitting on the chair with a blanket covering his body. The boy had no shoes on his feet so he felt the coldness from the ground. He felt helpless at the point when the white man was cutting his hair off because there was no window in the room so he couldn't communicate with anyone outside the school. The man was wearing all black just like theraven. The white man in school erased his culture as he cut his hair down.
