COMMON CANINE VIRAL INFECTIOUS DISEASES Disease Body Systems Affected Canine Distemper The virus in the canine can affect a wide range of organs including the skin, brain, eyes, intestinal and respiratory tracts. Infectious Canine Hepatitis Canine hepatitis is a disease of the liver The virus affects the tonsils and larynx causing a sore throat, coughing, and occasionally pneumonia. It can affect the eyes, and kidneys Infectious Tracheobronchitis: 'Kennel Cough' Upper respiratory system Parvo Virus (CPV) disease is currently the most common infectious disorder of dogs in the United States. The most common form of the disease is the gastrointestinal tract. Rabies The virus will spread through the nerves of the bitten animal to the brain and then move to the salivary glands. Canine Coronavirus (CCV) is the second leading viral cause of diarrhea in puppies with canine Parvovirus being the leader. The most common form of the disease is the gastrointestinal tract COMMON CANINE BACTERIAL DISEASE Disease Body Stems Affected Leptospirosis The bacteria penetrate mucous membranes or abraded skin and enter the blood system. From there they spread to other tissues including the kidneys, liver , spleen , nervous system, eyes, and genital tract. COMMON CANINE FUNGAL DISEASE Disease Body Stems Affected Ringworm. Ringworm is a well- known fungus that can infect dogs, cats, and humans.
