Chelsea Thoms ECHD 2050: Extra Credit Bridget Larsen Meeting with my career consultant Jillian, not only helped me learn about career consultants and the role they play during your time as a student, but also helped me learn about how to find out about job opportunities including internships, externships, and summer jobs. During my meeting with Jillian I was also told about upcoming career events that would help me in the future as I move forward in my career search. The first thing Jillian and I talked about during our meeting was the role of a career consultant. She told me that career consultants help guide student through a process of discovering their own path into the future. I learned that career consultants and academic advisers are alike in the fact that they have very similar goals. However, while academic advisers help students decide what classes to take and guide them toward completing their degree, career consultants help students not only decide on what to do during their walk through college, but help students make plans and decisions about life after college as well. Jillian said that generally speaking career consultants have a broader time period in mind when working with students than academic advisors have in mind. Next, Jillian discussed some of the benefits of using the career center as a freshman and as a sophomore.
