The word control, the power to direct one’s performance, is a strong yet broad word. Nurses are controlled by many entities and some of that control depends on the professional direction the nurse decides to embark on. The nursing profession begins with a pursuit in education and the Board of Nursing granting a license to practice in the designated State as well as continued competency or disciplinary actions. Once employed, the nurse then is also controlled by the policies and guidelines that the facility regulates.
