Kionna Jacobs April 10, 2017 Johnny Tremain: A Story of Boston Revolt : Chapters IX-XII The historical novel is full of adventure, strife, death, and discovery through the eyes of the protagonist Johnny Tremain. Throughout the book he experiences hardships with his crippled hand, family that unacknowledged him, and his experiences within the civil war. He has also overcome challenges and discovers who he is and what he what kind of man be desires to become. In the beginning of the story Johnny is praised for his silversmith skills and has a big ego because of it. His values only concern becoming a great silversmith and his master’s granddaughters Cilla and Isannah. The narrator reflects on Johnny’s goals and admits, “It had already been decided that when he grew up to be a great silversmith, he was to marry Cilla, and together…inherit Grandpa’s silver business” (7). At this point Johnny believes he has his purpose in life already figured out and everything will go according to plan. However, he gets a rude
