A basement is constructed with reinforced concrete walls to the depth described below on sites with the following conditions. For each site condition, what excavation support would you recommend in each case, and why? Also, describe the waterproofing method you would recommend in each case and explain why. (a) The basement is 12 ft deep, and the site is large and unobstructed. For a 12 ft excavation on a large site and unobstructed site, the self supporting open excavation sloped or bench should be used as it is the safest and most economical means of constructing a basement without incurring additional cost. As for the water proofing method, one would recommend the positive side waterproofing to be applied on the outside of the wall which faces the soil. (b) The basement is 12 ft deep and the site is relatively restrictive with areas adjacent to the excavation which must remain undisturbed at the surface.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
