Astronomy Chapter 2 Pre-Lecture Questions: Question 1: We can see the moon based on the position that is relative to the sun as it orbits the Earth. We could be able to see the New Moon, Waning Crescent, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter and Third Quarter. We can see those because of how the Sun is reflecting off of the moon. Phases that could not be seen during the day would be the Waning Gibbous, Waxing Gibbous and Full Moon. The phases that we see are determined by the time of day and the different times the moon orbits around the Earth. Our perception of the moon as a "night-time" object as being a thing is because a lot of people can't see the moon during the day, the reason could be the sunlight blocking the sun. Based on the reading the moon is above the horizon during both the daytime and night. Either way the moon can be easily visible in the morning.
