Assignment 4: Whaling (25 points) In 1982, the International Whaling Commission (IWC) decided by majority vote to implement a pause or a ‘moratorium’ in commercial whaling with effect from the 1986 coastal and 1985/86 pelagic whaling seasons. However, whale killing continues. Please refer to the Whaling in the Conservation and Management section of IWC website- and find out information regarding the following questions: a) What are the three types of whaling that still kill whales since the zero catch limits came into force in 1985/86(the moratorium)? Aboriginal Subsistence Whaling, Special Permit Whaling, Commercial Whaling. b) How many whales have been killed in each type of whaling stated above since the moratorium? 10,832 – Aboriginal 25,862 – Commercial 17,243 – Special Permit c) What are the countries involved in each type of whaling since the moratorium? Aboriginal – Denmark, USSR (Russia), USA, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
