Discuss the historical application of statistics in the field of health care. Statistics has been around for hundreds of years now, and the first statistical documentation dates back to the 1600s on probability and normal curve equations. In the 1850s, during the Crimean War, Florence Nightingale collected statistics on wounded soldiers that led her to discover how important cleanliness was to the health outcomes of the patients (Ambrose, Helbig, Ryan, & Torres, 2018). This use of statistics from Nightingale pioneered the concept of limiting the spread of disease and infection through proper sanitary conditions, which is a huge concept in the world of health care and infection control today.
