Lab H: Electrical Equivalent of Heat Gabriela Majcher Group 3 Experiment Date: 11/06/18 Submission Date: 11/13/18 Physics 103A-005 Instructor Zhaung Introduction Objective: The purpose of this laboratory is to determine electrical energy equivalent of heat, the conversion factor between the electrical energy unit (joule) and the heat energy unit (calorie); understand more deeply the idea of Conservation of Energy. Background: The amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time due to the law of conservation of energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed only transformed from one form to another. In this case a calorimeter is used in which it is heated by submerging a heating coil into the water along with an electric current. This causes an electric potential difference across the coil and the electric current running through it. Procedure Measure the mass of the empty inner cup of the calorimeter. Fill the cup with 250ml of cold water and measure the mass of the inner cup and water together. Place the lid with a
