TITLE Religious Headcovers The main cultural identifiers I found in the three articles I reviewed were religion, politics, and socioeconomic status. The discussions in each article were of the status of allowing a Teacher of a public school to wear any form of religious clothing such as a headcover. All three cultural identifiers found were entwined in all three articles. The first article discusses religious clothing in United States public schools and the concept of the separation of church and state. The article reviews several significant United States court cases concerning the issue. This first article compared social concerns over the Catholic habit to religious dress worn by Muslim women in the 21st century. The second Article identified the American framework for religious liberty. And the third article described the probable win Teachers faced in Oregon over the right to wear religious clothing such as turbans, yarmulkes and headscarves in a public school setting. Each of these articles showed that there is a consensus among American lawmakers that the right to religious exercise guaranteed citizens by the First Amendment would make most public prohibitions for religious clothing impossible.
