TOBACCO BRIEF POLICY 2 Tobacco Brief Policy Policy health issue Tobacco use has been increasing over the past two decades, despite its impact on human health. Though its use can be prevented, tobacco use still causes disease and deaths among the Americans and worldwide (Jha & Peto, 2014). Up to 500, 000 people in America die every year due to illness-related to cigarette smoking. The cost of health care delivery has increased to $400 every year in the United States because of the increase in cigarette smoking-related disease. Besides, cigarette smoking has reduced the productivity of various people because of the illness, disability, and death caused by disease related to smoking. Therefore, the quality of living among the affected and the infected people, primarily the patients and their families, are impacted negatively. Smoking of cigarette affects various body parts, and it causes both short-term and long- term effect on the health of an individual. Those who are smoking cigarette are at risk of developing g respiratory and cardiovascular disease. Besides, smoking increases the risk of developing various types of cancer, such as lung cancer. Individuals suffering from the smoking- related disease are unproductive in their various works because they keep missing their work, and they are utilizing a lot of finances in the treatment of illness (Bilano et al., 2015). Therefore, smoking increases the cost of living while reducing the quality of life. Smokers who do not quit smoking have a reduced life span of up to ten years loss because smokers are likely to experience smoking-related disease ten years after they start smoking.
