A. Characteristics Quantity Structure Function Origin Plasma Plasma is a light yellow liquid. It is the largest part of your blood. It constitutes 55% of blood fluid and is mostly water, and contains proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide and blood cells themselves. It makes up about 55% of the body's total blood volume. It carries water, salts and enzymes. It takes nutrients, hormones, and proteins to the parts of the body that need it. It also helps blood to clot, transport substances through the blood, and perform other functions. Plasma is mostly water and salts it's just absorbed through our digestive tract every day. The protein in plasma are produced by liver, the enzymes and antibodies are produced by cellular component of blood. Red Blood Cells Red blood cells are biconcave disks and they stain red. It contains no nucleus as mature cells. It also contains hemoglobin (a red, iron-rich protein that binds oxygen). Adult humans have roughly 20–30 trillion red blood cells at any given time, constituting approximately 70% of all cells by number.
