REIGN OF AUGUSTUS 2 An absolute ruler can be defined as a leader who rules in the type of realm where one leader has supreme power and where his authority isn’t constrained by any written laws, customs or legislations. Utmost kinds of these leaders come from, but not always, places where the leadership is hereditary. This means a presiding king, queen or an emperor would have an heir to take his place when he died. During the tenure of Augustus, he wanted to make his rule be not only successful but also make the people of Rome trust him and not see him as a dictator like his successor, Caesar. (Galinsky, 2007). He made his rule look like that of a republican government. This he made it possible by some ways as elaborated below due to some reasons which too are explained below. He mollified the senate and the ruling class by passing some laws that backed the republican tradition. He concealed his autocracy while acknowledging the republican traditions
