Nguyen Dr. Schoonmaker EAP II 2851- 605 7 February 2019 How to Read Like a Writer Being a college student, reading and writing skills are ones of the most important skills that you need. Despite being so major, there are still many students who lack these skills. However, by reading “How to Read Like a Writer” by Mike Bunn, students can understand that the best way to read is not only for the content but also to consider the choices that the writer made and to incorporate them to your writing. According to Bunn, reading like a writer is to read carefully and annotate when you read. There are many positive effects that Bunn mentions. Marking on the text helps you to actually have a conversation with the author and preserve your ideas better. It also makes you think more about the choices that he or she used and ask yourself whether it works with your writing. Bunn claims that “The goal as you read like a writer is to locate what you believe are the most important writerly choices represented in the text” (72). Additionally, reading like a writer is
