What racist housing policies? The article doesn’t say, so I clicked on another article. o Redlining Denying loans, mortgages, etc. To people in certain neighborhoods, typically those with predominantly black population What are we going to do? Force people of certain colors to live in certain places? Integrated schools with open enrollment and an end to school boundaries drawn along neighborhood lines. o “diversity-by-design". What? o Pros Diversity if this works o Cons Not getting to go to school with the people you see in your neighborhood What if everybody stays at their school because it’s closer, or everybody wants to go to one or two schools with better education? Is it bad to be poor? As long as you can feed yourself and get the basics, I don’t think it’s bad to have less than someone else. Negative effects on brain development Difficult to get skilled teachers in poverty schools Hungry students make it difficult to learn
