Sughnen Yongo Professor Alex Nesterenko COMM 699 9/19/2019 Charleston Syllabus: Readings on Race, Racism, and Racial Violence On the eighteenth day of June 2015, an eerie mugshot of glassy-eyed, disheveled looking, 21-year-old Dylan Storm Roof permeated the internet. On the seventeenth day of June 2015, Roof had killed nine African-Americans during a prayer service at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church with his Glock 41 .45-caliber handgun. The months following this tragic event were flooded with indignation from members of the African-American community as well as riddled with demands for immediate justice. As members of the media and press scrambled to get the latest breakthroughs in the case, the country became even more divided, even more, divided than it was since the days of the civil rights movement. Rehashing this social issue was like peeling at an infected wound that society had very much tried to merely put a band-aid on--the wound of racism so blatant that it belonged in the era of the civil rights movement.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
