English 1113: Fall 2017 Dr. Renee Harris Drafting Day: Rhetorical Analysis 1) Discover the context of your image: Answer the following “Stasis” questions: a) What are the facts surrounding the image’s production? b) How can the issue your image explores be defined? c) Who is affected by the issue? d) What actions can be taken in response to the issue? *Remember to remain neutral as you answer these questions. We want to know the full historical or cultural context in which the image was produced before we see the author’s unique perspective on the issue. 2) Think about the Major Claim (argument) of your piece: Is the author making a claim of fact-- demonstrating a relationship between events or issues? Is the author evaluating different perspectives and choosing a side (a claim of value)? Is the author making a claim of policy-- asking the reader to take action or make a change? Draft a single sentence summary of the image’s thesis.
