This highly productive habitat supports a wide variety of fishes, invertebrates, and marine mammals forming the basis for a rich ecosystem. Kelps are found in subtidal regions throughout the world where nutrients, light levels, temperatures and ocean currents permit. 3. Sea otters live in a cold ocean environment and rely on two traits to keep warm: a dense fur coat for insulation and very high metabolism to generate body heat.
