MGMT 1030 – Week 2 History - When looking at developments in business/economic history the discussion is about the influence of “heroic” individuals versus deeper trends as drivers of historical developments – Relates when we look at leaders in organizations o Our Artefact, Henry James Morgan’s Canadian Men and Women of the Time from 1898 A Quick Overview - There are many ways to look at the passage of time - People like to describe eras, or define time periods o This depends on where you are and what is important to you - Chinese Dynasties, or British royalty are sometimes used to define periods, for example “The Ming Dynasty” Empires - One shorthand for time periods is to define them in Imperial terms - The British Empire, The American Empire, etc. - The Soviet period in Russia is another example of defining a time period - Map is the British Empire in 1897 Industrial Revolution(s) - Some business and Economic historians like to divide history as pre-industrial and post industrial -
