1.) We have studied several theories that seek to explain how humans acquire knowledge, skills, values, behaviors, personal and group identity and worldview. Create your own theory of learning using components of the different theories we have studied. You must include at least 4 theories in your explanation. Human development is something that has been studying and debated forever. What makes a person develop skills, knowledge, behaviors, and more is not always a definite answer. My theory on human development is that each child should receive lots of love, consistent and fair discipline, with an environment that rewards effort and doesn’t create fear of failure. One of the building blocks I would use to support my theory would be Piaget’s stages of cognitive development. This includes the Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational stages. During certain stages more discipline would be added or subtracted, but the amount of love and the environment would remain the same. For example, if an infant baby is in the sensorimotor stage (ages 0- 2), there wouldn’t need to be a whole lot of discipline. But when the kid is entering elementary and middle school (Concrete Operational Stage), stricter discipline would be necessary to enforce proper behavior. Another theory I would use to support my own would include the “Growth Mindset.” Growth Mindset is the belief that abilities are unstable, controllable, and improvable. This is very important because those who lack a Growth Mindset limit their abilities and development. I believe all people should be taught the growth mindset. Social Cognitive Theory explains the role of other people serving as models and teachers and how they influence human development. I believe that just through observing others can be very influential to how someone might develop. This would be an iatrical belief in my theory. The fourth pillar, or fundamental theory that I would use is the Theory of Mind. The Theory of Mind is the belief and understanding that other people have their own mind with their own beliefs, emotions, and thoughts. This theory emphasizes that we are all individuals with our own unique experiences. For such reason we should have a certain level of respect for everyone. 2.) We know that sociocultural factors, such as gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, language background, religion, and sexual orientation have an impact on learning, identity formation and social development. Explain how teachers can use educational research, funds of knowledge, and culturally relevant pedagogy to understand learner diversity and empower all of our students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
