In 1722, Europeans first discovered the island and immediately knew that something wasn’t right. The land consisted of no trees or shelter, only hundreds of colossal statues made of rock. How and why were there no trees to be found? This is the question that left researchers and scientists wantingmore. As hundreds of years passed, we have come to a conclusion that the Island experienced deforestation due to the way the Polynesians incorporated their resources in everyday life.
